I got a phone call at about 7:00 am from a fellow midwife asking me if I could attend her clients birth with her. Of course I said yes! As you will come to find out, some people play facebook, some people eat chocolate, births are my stress relief and absolute addiction!!! So after finding a babysitter, I go and find the place of birth. I walk in and the beautiful birthing mother is in the tub with her husband there with her. She is talking with the midwife, like nothing is happening. She pauses for a contraction. She states she might of felt the need to push with that one. Her midwife states that she can check for herself, if she wants otherwise we will just go with what her body is telling her. She has a few more contractions, then she can't stop from pushing. Daddy wants to catch but ends up supporting her by sitting behind her. 2 pushes baby is starting to crown, midwife instructs her to slow down,breath through the ring of fire. Then the head slowly emerges. It is such a beautiful sight!! Then it just sits there. No more contractions for a while. So finally the midwife says lets push anyway, out comes this beautiful baby!! labor was 5 1/2 hours with pushing only 10 minutes! Placenta takes longer but comes complete. Getting mom out of the tub and to the bed we have a bleed but is handles quickly. I love watching Dads! This is one of the only times you get to see them completely. Man I love my job!!
